When I moved to Charleston from New York City two years ago, I found it hard to adjust in one significant way. I missed the endless options for food delivery. In Manhattan, you can get any type of food at any hour delivered directly to your door (or doorman). In Charleston, you could get pizza or Chinese. Now don’t get me wrong, I know that Charleston is an exceptional city when it comes to culinary delights. Charleston restaurants cover everything rom down and dirty bbq to exquisite five-star cuisine.

The food here is unbelievable…. It’s just the delivery options I have a problem with. Now, I’m not completely spoiled. I know I can’t expect every restaurant to start buying Vespas and hiring college kids to zoom around the city distributing fresh sushi and piping hot pastas to work-weary Charlestonians. But just one place that does a little of everything, does it right, and delivers it – that’s not too much to ask, is it?

Well, I must have complained about this to just the right people in just the right places because recently a new gourmet market and café opened just up the block (and around the corner) from our King Street Studio. On George Street across from the Sottile Theatre is Caviar and Bananas, giving the people of our good city yet another reason to smile… and salivate. They seem to have a little bit of everything, do it right, and will deliver it right to your door. THANK YOU. To date I have worked my way through just over half of the sandwiches, a third of the salads, a few prepared foods, and coffee coffee coffee. But the menus are extensive and it will take me the better part of a year to have it all. I’ve repeated a few of my favorite things- I just couldn’t help it. The edamame hummus is out of this world. The Lobster Cobb salad is divine. The Caprese sandwich melts in your mouth. I love this place, and you wanna know the best part about it? I haven’t stepped one foot in the door.
