The Resurrection of the Handy Man Special in Charleston

Back in May, I noticed what I thought could become a trend in handy man specials* and created this blog post about it.  Rather than publish my thoughts immediately, I decided to wait on the market a bit because I was afraid my theory might be wrong.  (Doesn’t everyone prefer to be right??)  At the beginning of this week, I took a client to see some fixer-upper homes in the Charleston Peninsula neighborhoods of Wagener Terrace and North Central, and less than four days later, two of the five we considered went under contract.  I thought this kind of action warranted further investigation…could my May hypothesis be coming true?

Hypothesis: I believe there is a resurrection of the Handy Man Special in Wagener Terrace and North Central.  Let’s look at the numbers to show you why.  (Click here for a map if you are unfamiliar with the Charleston Peninsula neighborhoods.)

7 homes sold in the past six months, and only 4 sold in the prior six months.    But – an additional 10 homes are currently under contract with only 17 more available (only 4 of which are in Wagener Terrace).  In an area of 2000+ homes, that looks like some serious action to me folks.  Wagener Terrace and North Central are hot, hot, hot.
