Spend an Evening with the Spirits on Poogan’s Porch.

The Daily Journal publishes “On the Menu” every Tuesday. (Subscribe here.) The column provides the latest news from the Charleston area’s extensive culinary community.

Here’s an excerpt from this week’s column:

“Ghostly Gourmet and Spirits: An Evening with the Spirits” features a prix fixe menu of Poogan’s typical Lowcountry cuisine, including fried green tomatoes, buttermilk fried chicken and shrimp and grits. Kristoff Kohlhagen, a licensed historical guide and owner of Charleston Sidewalks, will share lore of the darkest corners of the Lowcountry that is not often discussed.

As spirits are a familiar sight at Poogan’s Porch, the restaurant at 72 Queen St. has been on Charleston ghost walk tours for decades. The restaurant was built as a home in 1888 and was inhabited by Zoe St. Amand. Zoe has been spotted by employees and guests over the years, and in 2003, Poogan’s was named the “Third Most Haunted Place in America” by the Travel Channel.

“Our guests often inquire about Zoe, and what we can tell them tableside only seems to pique their interest,” said Poogan’s Porch owner Bobbie Ball.
