EXPLORE CHARLESTON
Historic Charleston
Historic Charleston is a city of many faces, and there is no place, and no lifestyle, that rivals it. South of Broad is an area of historic homes where old Charleston families live alongside transplanted professionals. Tourists wander the ancient narrow streets and alleys.
Isle of Palms
Isle of Palms is a barrier island with everything. There’s lush vegetation, from age-old live oaks to flowering crepe myrtles and oleanders. For the sports-minded, there’s golf, great fishing, crabbing and shrimping, and more water sports than we can name.
Folly Beach
Life on Folly Beach follows a fun, relaxing pace. During the winter, it is a small town at the end of the highway. In the summer, it is a vacation destination. Locals proclaim, “We have the best waves, the best nightlife and the best beach atmosphere along the Charleston Coast. But don’t tell anybody.”
Sullivans Island
The Town of Sullivans Island, a barrier island north of Charleston Harbor, is comprised of approximately 2,000 residents in half as many households. These are primarily full or part time citizens that enjoy the relaxed lifestyle of the Island. There are very few short-term rentals and no hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts, or other transient lodging.
Mount Pleasant
Mount Pleasant’s town planners have worked diligently to preserve the town’s rich heritage and small-town appeal, while allowing it to gain all the positive attributes of a much larger city. Mount Pleasant offers a huge variety of neighborhoods, a lively shopping and dining scene, and the perfect distance between historic Charleston and some of Charleston’s best beaches.
West Ashley
West Ashley derives its name from being the area of Charleston proper just west of Downtown across the Ashley River. West Ashley is very recently experiencing a renaissance as many shops, salons, restaurants, and other businesses are popping up all over. Older neighborhoods are being revitalized with renovated homes and even some new construction.
Dewees Island
Dewees Island is a unique side of Charleston that is rarely seen. This private residential community, only accessible by ferry, is located 11 miles north of Charleston and is surrounded by a natural environment of 2.5 miles of beaches and dunes, and a maritime forest that is undisturbed on the northern edge of Charleston.
Seabrook Island
Seabrook Island features 3.5 miles of Atlantic Ocean beachfront and another mile of sandy shore stretching along the North Edisto River. The island’s uncrowded beaches are ideal for swimming, shelling, fishing, dolphin watching, or even riding horses from the renowned Seabrook Equestrian Center.
Kiawah Island
Kiawah Island is a natural beauty. Carefully and thoughtfully planned, as lush as it has always been, Kiawah Island offers relaxation, recreation and privacy. Kiawah Island is the vision of what a Carolina barrier island should be with thick maritime forests, abundant wildlife, and wide beaches.
Daniel Island
Daniel Island is a 4,000 acre island located just slightly north of the Charleston Peninsula. Wedged between the Wando and Cooper Rivers, Daniel Island provides a number of beautiful creek and marsh views. The island offers conveniences of modern living and a diverse selection of boutiques and restaurants centrally located within this master planned community.
James Island
After many years of being essentially a bedroom community for neighboring historic Charleston, the town of James Island was formed in 1993. This was the same year that the James Island Connector made travel to this sea island easier and faster than ever. James Island is surrounded by the Charleston Harbor, Wappoo Cut, the Stono River, and the Folly River. It’s not surprising that the Island is known for fishing, shrimping, and beautiful scenic water views.
Johns Island
To the west of James Island is Johns Island, the largest island in SC. Originally a farming community, the island’s history dates back centuries as the site of several prominent plantations, producing much of the area’s rice, indigo, and cotton exports. Farming still exists today, and with the rise in popularity of local fruits, meats, and vegetables the island has experienced a rebirth in this historic function.
