James Island

After many years of being essentially a bedroom community for neighboring historic Charleston, the town of James Island was formed in 1993.  This was the same year that the James Island Connector made travel to this sea island easier and faster than ever.  James Island is surrounded by the Charleston Harbor, Wappoo Cut, the Stono River, and the Folly River. It’s not surprising that the Island is known for fishing,  shrimping,  and  beautiful scenic water views.  The island also features the Charleston Municipal Golf Course and the James Island County Park, famous for its yearly Festival of Lights and summertime waterpark.  James Island is family friendly living at its best.

Kain Slowikowski was born in Baltimore, Maryland and spent summers in nearby Ocean City, which developed his love for the coast, beach lifestyle and surfing.

After graduating from Salisbury University with a BA in Psychology with a minor in Business, Kain moved to the Outerbanks of NC to work for his fathers insurance, remediation and storm restoration company as a project manager. There, he was educated on coastal construction, secondary home maintenance, and coastal insurance policies.

After years of vacationing here, Kain moved to Folly Beach in 2010, and later James Island where he continues to live today with his wife. The Folly lifestyle allows him time for doing the things he loves: surfing, cooking, exploring the surrounding area, and reclaiming wood from historic Charleston homes to build custom furniture. Kain is a member of the Charleston Trident Association of Realtors, Surfrider Foundation, and Mission Blue.
