East Side Homes for Sale in Historic Charleston

East Side (sometimes referred to as Hampstead Village in historical documents) was planned in 1769 and designed after the traditional English town model of centering a community on four adjacent parks known as “the commons.” This was meant to appeal to the wealthy in the surrounding areas that wanted to live close to the city but not directly in the city center. While this idea never truly came to be, the area now serves as an investor’s dream.

Development, historic preservation, and property renovations have been increasingly more common in this neighborhood over the past decade. As Charleston’s residential and commercial footprint expands up the neck of the peninsula, more and more folks are looking to call the East Side home.

Insider’s Tip:

The Cigar Factory is an old manufacturing building that has been lovingly transformed into a mixed-use space with shopping, dining, offices, and event spaces – Definitely worth a visit! Stop in to the  Rappahannock Oyster Bar, which features outdoor dining and a beautiful copper bar where you can try one of their signature seafood dishes. We like the Holy City Tower, a raw bar combination of oysters, shrimp, clams, caviar, ceviche, mussels, and the chef’s seasonal seafood salad!
