St. Patty’s Shamrock SUP Race On Folly Beach

Big Jon Ory is founder of Charleston SUP Safaris, but it has taken him a lot of effort to get to this place. Born in Hawaii, Ory lived where Stand Up Paddle Boarding originated. He moved to Charleston as a young boy and was always in the water on Folly Beach or the Ashley River. After gradutating from Presbyterian College on a football scholarship, Ory returned to Hawaii for a while.

He then spent 11 years directing College and High School international community service programs in New Zealand, Fiji, Puerto Rico, and Central America. Ory’s goal is to get people focused on their natural environment. In 2010, he founded Charleston SUP Safaris to share his knowledge of the local waterways with visitors and residents.

In celebration of the opening of his new Charleston SUP Safaris shop on Folly Beach, Ory is hosting the first ever Shamrock SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard) Race on Saturday, March 17. The event will include several races from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm for adults and kids of all ability levels, and a doggie paddle race towards the end of the event.

The theme of the race is Go Green – think green, act green and wear green in the spirit of St. Patty’s Day. Prizes are available to be won by best outfits contests, at raffles, and for a silent auction. SUP Clean UP, Charleston Waterkeepers and Surfrider Foundation will be around during the event to provide educational information about being Green on our waterways.

Boards will be available for rent at $10 each. Entry fees, divisions, and registration forms can be found at Charleston SUP’s website. The event proceeds will benefit Pet Helpers and Emerson Rose Heart Foundation.

The Awards Ceremony will take place at Charleston SUP Safaris located at 83 Center Street, Folly Beach, SC 29439 with a block party following afterwards to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.

Dunes Agent Helps Mt. Pleasant Receive $4000 Beautification Grant

As reported by Moultrie News

The Palmetto Pride Anti-Litter Organization recently awarded a $4000 beautification grant to the Mount Pleasant Pride Committee. This money will go to making the Public Service Department’s Six Mile Complex a beautiful and welcoming site for motorists, residents,  and recreational walker/joggers.

Patricia Fuchs, a real estate agent with Dunes Properties, is Vice Chair of the Pride Committee. We are so proud of her and her involvement in the town she calls home.  Karen Hilty from our Kiawah/Seabrook office exlaimed this when she found out the good news “I am not surprised one bit by Patricia’s accomplishments. I have had the pleasure of working with her for many years at Dunes and there is no one I would rather have on my committee; or any committee for that matter.”

We go on about Charleston being a way of life and how we love to make our visitors our new neighbors. It’s not just blathering talk. It’s the truth.  We love this city and we enjoy giving back to the communities.

Betty Poore volunteers at East Cooper Hospital, does Meals on Wheels almost every week with her mom, and devotes a lot of time to the Pet Helpers Trap and Return Program.

Toddy Poore does Meals on Wheels every week with her daughter (Betty) or sons.

Mark Mitchell and Patricia Fuchs sponsor Isle of Palms Rec Center’s children’s sports teams and Mark is highly invovled in the school board, Rotary Club, and Boys and Girls Club of the Trident Area.

Mark Fuchs is a member of the Lowcountry Business Network .

Jack Hurley through his Jack’s Cosmic Dogs has sponsored 50 children in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library program to provide them with free age appropriate books.

Mike Parades serves as treasurer for an HOA, teaches several classes a year at CTAR, teaches for Community Associations Institute, consults local HOAs,  and just completed term as President of the Stono Ferry Mens Golf Association Board.

Linda Solomon has been a member of the Pet Helpers Annual Fur Ball committee for several years.

I could go on but suffice to say, Dunes Properties loves Charleston and we love giving back to Charleston.
