West Side

The “West Side”, located on the peninsula North of Highway 17 and below Hampton Park is walking distance to The Citadel, MUSC, and Upper King Street. This neighborhood is popular with first time home buyers looking for affordable square footage and proximity to work and play. Home values that offer room for growth are a motivator to buyers looking to get their hands dirty revitalizing this area. It’s not all work though for those who choose to make the “Westside” their home, as Brittlebank Park on the Ashley River and the Joe Riley Baseball Stadium provide year round activities to enjoy.

Insider Tip:
Find the pedestrian overpass at the base of Perry Street for easy access to the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhoods, and as you pass by, note the beautiful Children’s Garden at Mitchell Elementary School.

Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Colin Crates has always held a special love for the Lowcountry, fostered by annual vacations to Kiawah Island and a passion for the immense history of the Charleston area. When it came time to choose a college, he had no doubt that he would return to the area as a College of Charleston undergrad. Colin studied Political Science and International Studies at CofC, graduating with honors. After graduating, Colin found real estate to be a natural progression, utilizing his natural people skills, hard work ethic and overall love of the Charleston area to help others call Charleston their home, too. When he’s not out showing homes or closing deals, you can usually find Colin with his two adopted dogs, Alfie and Curry, taking them on long walks around the Greenway near their West Ashley home, or exploring Charleston’s many neighborhoods, restaurants, beaches, and dog parks.
